On 21 March 2003 the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra with piano soloists Noriko Ogawa and Kathryn Stott premiered Graham's double piano concerto at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, UK.

The piano has been a primary instrument in much of Graham's work and he has written for 2, 4 and 6 piano groups, alongside many solo piano pieces and piano cocnerto.   This is the first piece for two pianos and orchestra that Graham has written.

This was a BBC commission but in July 2004 the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra performed the piece at Suntory Hall, Tokyo and subsequently at Kyoto Concert Hall.   Later in the same year a different Japanese orchestra, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, performed the piece at Muza Kawasaki.    Then at the end of 2007 the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, under conductor Naoto Otomo, performed the work once more at Kawasaki and then recorded the work for a Fitkin piano disc.   The record company, Bis, will release the album at the beginning of 2010.   Each of these performances had the same soloists that the piece was originally written for and they recorded other piano duos and solos by Graham for the same album.
